  • Week 1 – Grammar/Sentence Structure: Students focus on the mechanics of writing by crafting engaging autobiographies in both fiction and non-fiction styles.

  • Week 2 – Vocabulary: Expanding word choices and descriptive language by writing various forms of poetry, including cinquains, diamantes, and free verse.

  • Week 3 – Descriptive Writing: Bringing settings to life by designing captivating brochures and pamphlets for dream vacation destinations.

  • Week 4 – Persuasive Writing: Learning to structure arguments and advocate for positive change by writing formal letters to the editor.

  • Week 5 – Storytelling: Flexing creative muscles by writing engaging short stories, specifically focusing on fantasy or fractured fairy tales.

  • Week 6 – Mysteries/Character Development: Creating complex characters and practicing writing from a variety of unique perspectives.

  • Week 7 – Horror/Science Fiction: Exploring narrative writing, pacing, and suspense by drafting stories centered around common fears and phobias.

  • Week 8 – Dialogue/Monologue: Mastering the flow of conversation and personal thoughts by writing scenes in a professional movie script format.

Participants must currently be in grades 5 to 6.
